Identifying with the characters/setting

As I am reading The Hunger Games I am starting to realize that I match one of the characters really well. Katniss and me have a lot in common. I have a little sister and I personally would take anyone in my family's place and go to the game for them. I love the woods as much as she does. Even though I am not as good with a bow and arrow but if I had to choose a weapon that is what I would pick. I also have a few male friends that would love to go hiking or just hang out in the woods with me like Katniss has Gale. She has a harder life then me but I have to say being poor is something we have in common. She has less food to eat then me but I have experienced when there was hardly any food. Nowadays I have almost everything I want in food but I have had times where my mother didn't eat just so my sister and I could eat. I like the part where she is with Haymitch is trying to get her to be someone she isn't. I have had people try to do that to me and I personally did not like it. I like how she is herself for the interview. She is a hard person to connect with but I can see where she comes from. I personally don't open to everyone but the people I don open up to are the people that I trust with my life like she does with Gale. All Gale has to do is turn her in but he wouldn't since she is a friend. If she was a real person we would get along really well and probably be unable to be detached from each other. I also can relate to the setting since it is almost the exact spot where I love so I know how bad the money is around here. I hope that you have found someone in the story that you connect with.
